We play clans that start close to eachother and use our armies to support each other, lots of fun, and uniting forces doesnt make it too easy, because the AI still gets large stacks. We usually mix and match armies so we both have a presence in each others holdings, so we can make combined attacks on multiple fronts. In effect this means most of our armies alone are smaller than the AI, and together its the size of a normal army a player would have there, but we can both bring our unit specialities and work together. I usually dont bother getting buildings for archers, and instead focus on cavalry. My friend brings archers, and I bring the cavs. In battles where we dont both have armies, we usually split our army up by gifting half units to the other person who is a spectator, so we can both play. So even if only one of our armies is on the field, or when we are fighting a desperate defence with a skeleton garrison, we can still both be playing. There is nothing like winning a heroic defence with the garrison and one turns worth of recruited units by sharing units, and pushing back a huge stack. Or when we do have our armies go into combat alone it happens. When we are hugely outnumbered, one of us controls the melee units and another controls the archers I find if I try micro both I often get my archers killed for inattention. I even taught my GF to strategy game with this, because I would take the bulk he units in every battle, and she would only as large a force as she felt comfortable playing with. One thing I love about sword of the stars is that it encourages teamwork in co op by placing allies close to each other. To many games, I feel, discourage co op by saying oh, you want to play together Ill start you as far apart as possible.
